September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

September 1, 2022 by Webmaster GMC

Suicide is a leading cause of death in the United States. It was responsible for nearly 46,000 deaths in 2020. This is about one death every 11 minutes. In 2020, an estimated 12.2 million adults seriously thought about suicide, 3.2 million made a plan, and 1.2 million attempted suicide. Suicide is a serious public health problem that can have lasting harmful effects on individuals, families, and communities. Everyone can help prevent suicide by learning the warning signs, promoting prevention and resilience, and a committing to social change.

There’s no single cause for suicide. Suicide most often occurs when stressors and health issues converge to create an experience of hopelessness and despair.

People who are considering suicide often display one or more of the following moods:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Loss of interest
  • Irritability
  • Humiliation/Shame
  • Agitation/Anger
  • Relief/Sudden Improvement

If you are concerned about someone in your life, Grace Medical is ALWAYS here to treat, help and listen. We’re open 6 days a week with no appointments needed, and no insurance required. www.gracemedicalgreenville.com
